[编辑] Introduction

This section of the Beginner's Guide is intended to help you get started customising you Ubuntu desktop to suit your own tastes and needs. We'll start of with some simple explanations of how to change your desktop background or alter the fonts used, and we will progress onto more detailed explanations of how to really alter the look and feel of GNOME. Throughout this guide you will see links to other sources of documentation that compliment this one, as well as links to definitions of key terms on the Glossary.

[编辑] Before We Start

Throughout this guide you will need to use the Preferences tab, found within the System tab of your GNOME panel. This contains the utilities required to follow this guide - it will look like this... DesktopCustomization?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=gnome-panel-screenshot.png ...and is found at the top left of your screen. When you need to access this, we will say "go to System, then Preferences, then...". Click the tabs to access each new menu level until you find the icon we are looking for. Within the Administration and Preferences tabs items are listed in alphabetical order, so you can find what you are looking for quickly. Right - let's go!
