Switching to Kubuntu from other Linux distributions

SwitchingToUbuntu describes Ubuntu's use of sudo (which is handy, but somewhat jarring to those familiar with Linux and Unix) in place of root console. This is very helpful, but to someone who is coming to Ubuntu from another Linux distribution it's quite easy to get lost. Having information relevant to longtime RPM-distro users would be great.

Distributions

RPM-based

  • FromRedHatToKubuntu - RPM-based distribution with its own set of system config tools
  • FromSuSEToKubuntu - RPM-based distribution with YaST system config tools
  • FromMandrivaToKubuntu - RPM-based distribution with DrakConf system config tools

DEB-based

  • FromUbuntuToKubuntu - Trivial and if you're tired with oddities of Gnome, this should be the first thing to try.
  • FromDebianToKubuntu - Presumably, much easier to unnecessary, but maybe some KDE hints?

Alternative Distros

FromGentooToKubuntu - Where to begin?
