Firefox, which is produced by the Mozilla project, is the default browser in Ubuntu. Mozilla also produce SeaMonkey an all-in-one browser & email client.
Installing extensions
Installing extensions, small extra programs to do extra things, is quite easy. Please see Mozilla's excellent guide here. Firefox extensions can be found here
Firefox and Ubuntu Security Policy
Ubuntu has a strict policy of no new versions of software in stable version of Ubuntu. Firefox is an exception to that rule, due to issues with backporting fixes. All supported versions of Ubuntu receive newer versions of Firefox.
