About Me

Hi everyone. My name is Christopher Denter. I am an eighteen year old German student spending most of my past-time to ubuntu-linux and am known to the community with the nickname dennda. I fell in love with ubuntu when breezy came out in december 05 and i am constantly supporting other users of the community as good as i can, ever since.

After i became addicted to ubuntu i joined the German ubuntu association ("ubuntu Deutschland e.V." Link) and became an active member of it.

Contributions

My contributions to the ubuntu project can be (roughly) categorized into three different parts:

  • Writing
  • Presenting
  • Supporting

I am mostly active in the German community, contributing either locally in my area or national (that means: available to everyone who is German-speaking).

Writing

Writing about Ubuntu certainly is important. It allows people to read what you wrote at any time, any place.

Therefore i wrote two different articles about ubuntu which were published by two different computer-mags. ("freeX" this issue on the one hand and "hardwareluxx" not printed yet on the other).

Further articles are already planned.

In addition to that i am the author of many ubuntu-related threads and postings like this one: Link where i introduced ubuntu to the people of the area i am living in.

Presenting

Up to now i have made several presentations concerning ubuntu (e.g. in school or university, with an average length of 2-3 hours of speech time). At the end of my presentations i always provide the audience with a copy of ubuntu so they can test it. If they have any issues while testing (or any further questions that i didn't already answer during the presentation) i help them solving the problem (or give them an answer). This strategy of presenting ubuntu works very good as i experienced.

I am planning to be more active at events like CeBIT or LinuxWorldExpo. (I unfortunately visited the LinuxWorldExpo only once up to now as an active ubuntu supporter at the german ubuntu booth.)

Supporting

I am very active in giving other people support with ubuntu. I often visit other people to help them with getting ubuntu onto their disks. I convinced many people to use ubuntu and therefore i also have to deal with their support-requests which i answer either directly in front of their machine running the installation or via phone or on the internet.

In addition to that i help people on forums (e.g. ubuntuusers.de), irc and jabber.

Currently i count eleven people i have permanently brought over to the bright side of the force. :D (Only counting those i have direct and constant support-contact to.)

Other documented contributions

There are some other small things i worked on which i want to mention because they are well-documented (as opposite to my presentations, for example). One of the first things i did for the ubuntu-world was the translation of edubuntu's "Getting Started" into German.

I also wrote some smaller articles for Ikhaya, the no.1 German ubuntu news portal (e.g. Ubuntucounter and Ubuntu Videos.

Connected to my membership in the German ubuntu association i sometimes help with some less important things like writing texts for Ubuntu-DVD-Covers and so on.

Outro

Well, now you guys know my most important contributions. I hope to be yet more active after having finished school (finish-exams start on friday). I like the idea and the spirit of ubuntu (humanity to others, for instance) and i also like to spread it and to help people. Not to forget: I like the community as well. :)

I hope you enjoyed reading. Feel free to contact me. :)
