Installation

• Thunderbird package via Synaptic Package Manager
• Via apt-get
• Gutsy Gibbon 7.10: sudo apt-get install thunderbird thunderbird-gnome-support
• Fiesty Fawn 7.04: sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird

Hints and Tips

Disable word wrapping in outgoing messages

• Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor
• Set the preference called "mail.wrap_long_lines" to false

Disable HTML messages

• Edit -> Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing
• Uncheck "Compose messages in HTML format"

Google calendar integration

Thunderbird 2.0 can both view and edit Google calendars. It requires 2 extensions:

• Lightning - for adding calendar functionality to Thunderbird
• Google calendar provider extension.
