Enable/Disable Services with sysv-rc-conf

Install sysv-rc-conf

System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager With All packages selected (the default) scroll down to sysv-rc-conf and check the box, selecting Mark for Installation. You will be prompted to "Mark additional required changes ?" for "dialog" to be installed; click Mark. In the menu bar of Synaptic, click Apply. When prompted to apply the changes, click the Apply button. Wait for the software to install, then File > Quit from Synaptic.

Run sysv-rc-conf

Start up a root terminal (Applications > System Tools > Root Terminal). Type sysv-rc-conf Move among service run levels with arrow keys. Select or deselect a service with the space bar. As of May 2005, a partial description of the services can be found at InitScriptList with other information available at UbuntuBootupHowto. When done, press the Enter key. To exit the program, press q. -- rcs 08-May-2005
