Introduction

This page describes a network installation of Ubuntu 6.06.1 on Sun Fire X4100 and X4200 servers.

Netboot

This install uses the netboot method as described in Installation/Netboot.

Pre-installation

Before the starting installation process:

  • Make sure the BIOS is not configured to boot off the ATAPI CD-ROM. Instead, it should boot off the hard disk.
  • Make sure the BIOS boot order for the hard disks is what you expect from your hardware.
  • Make sure to note the first hard disk for the next section.

Installation

During the installation process, special care must be taken regarding the hard disk devices.

  • Make sure to install /boot on the first disk of the BIOS boot order noted in the previous section.
  • Make sure to note the device name for the next section. For example, it might be /dev/sdi.

Post-installation

After the installation process:

  • Before rebooting, press F12.
