From the Gnome Desktop
Note: This only works with an internet connection, as packages must be downloaded from the 'net. If you're viewing this page, you probably already have a connection. Of course, the greater the speed, the faster the packages will download.
Applications menu > Add / Remove applications
Click the Advanced button in the lower left corner of the window
In the upper left text field box, click All to show all packages.
Packages should be displayed in the right text field box. Scroll down to the package kdebase and click Mark package for installation. This brings up the dialog box listing all the package dependencies.
Tell it OK.
Given your working internet connection (see first note for help) the system will install the required packages to run KDE on Ubuntu aka Kubuntu. It will tell you when it's done. When it is...
Changing sessions
Logout.
Click the link Options in the bottom left corner of the login screen.
a. Select Session from the menu. A window pops up with radio buttons. b. Select the KDE desktop option for your session. Hit OK.
Now login as usual, and KDE should start.
