Gimmie is an experimental replacement for the GNOME panel, organized around the idea that people don't think in tasks, but in goals. Especially in documents and people, which gives Gimmie a distinctive feel compared to other panels.

Gimmie is so experimental that is not yet in the Ubuntu repositories and must be compiled manually. To use it in Dapper Drake, you'll need the following dependencies:

        • build-essential
        • python-dev
        • python-gtk2-dev
        • python-gnome2-dev
        • python-gnome2-desktop
        • python-gnome2-extras-dev
        • libgnome-desktop-dev
        • libgnomecups1.0-dev
        • libwnck-dev

Use apt-get or synaptic to install those. Then:

./configure && make

Gimmie can then be started by changing to that directory and running:

./gimmie.py
