Installation
- Thunderbird package via Synaptic Package Manager
- Via apt-get
- Gutsy Gibbon 7.10:
sudo apt-get install thunderbird thunderbird-gnome-support
- Fiesty Fawn 7.04:
sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
Hints and Tips
Disable word wrapping in outgoing messages
- Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor
- Set the preference called "mail.wrap_long_lines" to false
Disable HTML messages
- Edit -> Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing
- Uncheck "Compose messages in HTML format"
Google calendar integration
Thunderbird 2.0 can both view and edit Google calendars. It requires 2 extensions:
- Lightning - for adding calendar functionality to Thunderbird
- Google calendar provider extension.

Thunderbird defaults to starting your reply below the quote. You can change this behaviour here:
- Edit -> Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing
- Change "start my reply below the quote" to "start my reply above the quote"
