An ISO is a complete image designed to be burned onto a CD or DVD. They have the extension .iso.

The standard File Roller can treat iso images like a compressed file and can extract the content of the image. A more convenient way to is usually to mount the iso directly into the file system, see MountIso.

Ubuntu (and other Linux distributions) ship as ISO images. Please see GettingUbuntu for how to get an ISO of Ubuntu. If have already downloaded the ISOs, see BurningIsoHowto for complete instructions on how to burn this image onto a CD. For instructions on how to create ISOs from a CD or DVD, see UbuntuHelp:CreateIsoFromCDorDVD.
