• Q: Ubuntu is no longer booting into gnome.
• A: Runlevels have no effect on X in ubuntu/debian, gdm is started in levels 2-5. Try typing sudo invoke-rc.d gdm start on the command line. If the gui doesn't start up, provide a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log

You can install pastebinit , and type

 cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit 

After a few seconds, you will get back a url of a webpage to which it was pasted.
