Model Chipset Driver Supports network install? Supported in installed system? Works "out of the box" Comments Last Updated
DWA-642 Atheros AR5416 Ndiswrapper + Madwifi Possibly ?? Yes after howto No To get this card to work, follow the following tutorial: http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5890620#post5890620 and you should be able to get this card (and possibly this chipset) to work properly. The howto is what I have done to get it to work, and it has worked very well.4 October, 2008
DWL-G520+  ? (Texas-Instruments ???) acx111 Yes Yes Yes (WPA not out-of-the-box) Works fine together with Air``Port Express, using 128 bit WEP. Works with WPA with ndswrapper drivers and without NetworkManager (wpa_supplicant from command line). 2008-04-08
DWL-G520+A ralink rt61  ? No No lspci shows "Ralink: Unknown device 0302". Dapper already has the required driver rt61, but needs some manual configuration. Refer to this forum post 2006-10-08
DWL-G650Atheros AR5212 Madwifi YesYesYesRunning with feisty;Installation with WEP-WLAN was no Problem;wifi0 has strange MAC-Address;ath0 used2007-06-22
WDA-2320 Atheros AR5212 Madwifi  ? Yes Yes Worked out of the box in 7.04, 7.10 and 8.04. Had the Restricted Drivers Manager info box for Atheros. WPA worked automatically in 7.10 and 8.04. 2007-09-16
DWL-510 Realtek 8180L Realtek with ndiswrapper  ?  ? No Works with Relatek binary drivers for Windows and ndiswrapper, but requires a small modification to the PCI ID in NET8180.INF. Refer to this page for more details. Note that at least with 2.6 kernel the orginal D-Link Windows driver that comes with the card has serious problems and may cause a system restart.
DWL-G510 Atheros madwifi  ? Yes Yes Revision B1 4.10 -- revision C2 should work if you download and compile the RT61 drivers for Linux from here but they are hard to compile.
WDA-1320 Atheros AR5005G madwifi  ? Yes Yes Works perfectly in Dapper and Edgy. 2006-11-06

Model Chipset Driver Supports network install? Supported in installed system? Works "out of the box" Comments Last Updated
DWL-G630 hw Ver:C2 fw Ver:3.01 Atheros AR5005G Madwifi  ? Yes Yes Driver in linux-restricted-modules. Native support in Edgy. 21-Jan-2007
DWL-G630 hw Ver:E1 fw Ver:5.0 Ralink RT61 / Ralink provided No No No Revision E1 has changed chipset from rev. D. Chipset manufacturer has driver source here. (Look for "RT61", D-Link product name is not mentioned). Driver sources are GPL, but attached firmware files apparently carry no explicit license. 04-Jan-2006
DWL-G630 hw Ver:E2 fw Ver:5.0 Ralink RalinkRT61 ? Yes Yes The card is working for me on HARDY. It used rt61pci kernel module. Worked by plugging it in and then installing Xubuntu. "Act" light blinks properly, but "Link" light does not. (Chipset manufacturer has driver source here) 2008-06-07
DWL-610 Realtek RTL8180  ?  ? Yes  ? On 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake): automatically detected, it works fine without encryption and WEP open key, but doesn't work with WEP shared key. 2008-03-31
DWL-G650+  ? acx100 No No No Work quite well with latest driver from Davis Vlasenko. (0.3.10 work well, but some earlier version may work also). 2005-09-22
WNA-1330 Atheros AR5212 Madwifi  ? Yes Yes Just had to configure my wi-fi connection and WEP and was off and running. No glitches detected...just had the Restricted Drivers Manager info box. 2007-06-06
DWL-650 Rev P/P1  ? prism3/hostap_cs No No No The device ID was removed from hostap_cs.c during the merge of those sources into the kernel, and for some reason is in orinoco_cs (likely because the DWL-650 works with orinoco_cs). People have been notified and a patch has been submitted. This card needs firmware loaded in order to work. Full details on getting this card working in Ubuntu are here and here 2007-04-18
DWL-G650 H/W Ver.:B5 F/W Ver.: 2.54  ?  ?  ? Yes Yes Automatically detected with Feisty; worked after config and reboot 2007-10-02
WNA-2330 Atheros AR5212 v: A1 Madwifi  ? Yes Yes Worked immediately. No config necessary. Madwifi driver automatically recognized it and NetworkManager worked with no troubles. Believe this is a replacement for the dwl-g650 2006-07-23

DWL-520 E1  ? prism2 No No No See here. 2005-04-25
DWL-G520 Atheros AR5212 Madwifi Yes Yes Yes DAPPER: Nearly works out-of-the-box, but had to add "wireless-rate 11M" to /etc/network/interfaces + reboot or two. BREEZY: Works out of the box with breezy. Works well, even with WEP. (Note: Some G520 may use acx100 instead.) HOARY: Rev. B of this card will not work out-of-the-box with Hoary--the madwifi drivers that shipped with Hoary are too old. An updated linux-restricted-modules* package is available here Note that this package is not officially supported. Some users have reported problems with WPA in the forums.2005-12-16
DWL-520+  ? acx100 Yes Yes Yes Just Works
DWL-G630  ? no (ndiswrapper)  ?? Yes Yes, though CD-installer doesn't recognize it Works in Breezy (just configure it from the gnome network config tool), though it isn't recognized during installation. Works only via ndiswrapper in Warty and Hoary. (But check your hardware and firmware version against those below which succeeded. Maybe this is an old entry.)
DWL-650  ? orinoco_cs Yes Yes Yes Automatically detected, setup even asks for the WEP key
DWL-650+  ? acx100 Yes Yes Yes Automatically detected, works with and without WEP. Did not test 22Mb/sec mode
DWL-G650 Atheros AR5212 Madwifi  ?? Yes Yes Only Open-Key WEP with Netgear DG834G
DWL-G650 Atheros AR5212, Version C2, Firmware 3.1.6 Madwifi Should work (Card is recognized and kernel drivers loaded, so connecting to a unsecure Open System A.P. while installing should work) Yes Yes Open System Access Point and WEP work out of the box. For WPA-PSK I needed to install wpasupplicant (not included in Ubuntu before v6.06). I used the Debian Sid package without any problem. This card also works with ndiswrapper. I used a D-Link DI-624+ router to test it. (upgraded firmware of the router, not related to linux nor the wifi card, router rebooted itself even when connecting a windows machine with a ethernet cable, applied last firmware, now doing fine). Update: On Edgy recognized out of the box by Wireless LAN Manager including WEP. WPA works with Knetworkmanager. On Feisty, requires linux-restricted-modules. Works with Knetworkmanager on WPA. WEP not tested.
DWL-G650+  ? acx100 No No No Does not work for me unless I recompile the pci_acx module with latest patches. After that it works. WEP not yet supported for acx111 cards. Added_note: I confirm this card does not work with a default Hoary install: despite the fact that it worked fine with my Hoary install from Array 5. Go figure. The fault seems to be related to an error in loading the firmware which is present in the hotplug firmware folder.
DWL-G650+  ? no (ndiswrapper) No Yes No Works with WEP. It is out-of-the box as much as ndiswrapper can be (manually install of win drivers). However, it shows 100% range all the time
