PacketRadio

Packet Radio has two radios linked to a TNC (terminal node controller) with data transmitted in bursts (packets). In recent years the TNC has been either built-in to the radio or replace by the PC (either in software or a serial adapter). Radios can be linked to form clusters and BBS, a packet relay station is called a Digipeater. Packet Radio uses the AX.25 protocol, though recently there has been a switch to TCP/IP. A minimum setup is a PC, transmitter and a TNC (can be removed if radio or PC has this function). Some TNC's are available that replaces the PC, since all you really need is the TNC and a keyboard. TAPR is an excellent resource for digital amateur communications and related software. [1] (A link to the TAPR homepage is posted on the software page)
