Introduction

Amateur Radio is a civilian service. Mostly a hobby, where operators practice and develop various forms (modes) of transmission. In times of emergency, operators provide communication in areas that have lost communication or facilitate communication between agencies that have systems that are incompatible. Amateur Radio Operators have been able to link their radios with; other radios, television, email, wifi (802.11b/g) and PC's. License process may vary depending on your country. I posted the relevant organizations for the US below. And I got a link for Great Britain. Please add links to your country's licensing body below the others. I put this together when I couldn't find a similar page elsewhere in the Wiki. This page is largely dedicated to software available in Synaptic for ham radio operations. And getting those interested involved in those activities using Ubuntu. But other resources, such as links to docs or other free software, may be listed. There is some Linux software for ham radio that has yet to be put together in a package and some packages are not listed in Synaptic. KB3IMT
